Morning Coffee in Manila, Philippines
This morning I woke up and decided for my morning coffee to use a mix of beans. This is a special method of blending haha. I used half Colombia decaf beans from Angkan Coffee and half Mt. Apo Arabica beans from Allo Coffee Roasters. Sometimes it is nice to have a decaf with normal coffee because I have been drinking too much caffeine and having sleeping issues. Mixing decaf with regular coffee has been a great way for me to reduce the caffeine while still enjoying a rich cup of coffee. Both of these beans are from local roasters here in the Philippines, and each brings something unique to the table.
Why I Chose These Coffee Beans
I have been impressed with Allo because they have a lower price range, but the quality is still good. There is a sweetness that I only tasted from more expensive specialty coffee roasters. The single-origin beans of Mt. Apo are also locally grown in the south of the Philippines, so beans from there are usually more expensive because of the limited supply.
In contrast, the Angkan beans I am a little less happy because they are roasted very dark and the flavor is overpowering. However, this is expected with a lot of decaf coffee beans. The price was still reasonable because they are swiss water method decaf beans are usually a lot more costly than other decaf beans. I have heard swiss water does not use the same chemicals as other decaf methods so people are willing to buy those beans even with the higher price.
The Coffee Tasting Experience
This coffee blend resulted in an ok cup of coffee. I think it would be better with ice and milk lol.
Conclusion
Overall, if you drink a lot of coffee I recommend always trying different beans and seeing what flavors you like because if you only drink a coffee chain’s blend you will not know there differences in flavors. Also, it is fun to experience different taste notes and see how many changes there can be from the numerous variables.
